He woke up Saturday morning before dawn to meet up with his team mates and by then it was already starting to rain. He's the one with the blue rain coat in this picture. Their valero jerseys were really nice, probably the nicest ones I saw all day among the thousands of riders.
Here's another group picture at the Alamodome. Jim is the one on the right side...

The girls and I had a long leisurely breakfast and then took a trip to Target to browse around then headed to the finish line to wait for Jim and cheer him at the end... There were tons of other wives and kids waiting for their daddies/husbands so we had a good time mingling and making friends.

Lucy really got into the cheering spirit. You could hear her yelling "Way to gooooooo!!!" to every cyclist that rode by....

but stepped it up a notch when she thought she saw her Daddy...
and before we realized it wasn't him, a crazy storm came in and we had to seek refuge in the truck...

we watched Jim arrive at the finish line from inside the car under one the worst rain storms I've experienced (apart from the hurricanes). He rode under a lot of rain but still made great time and made us SO PROUD!! Here's a picture of him at the end a few minutes after the rain stopped.

We headed to our hotel so Jimbo could shower and freshen up then went to eat at Olive Garden to get him loaded with carbs for the next day. We had a decadent pumpkin cheesecake for dessert (one of the highlights for me :) Back at the hotel the girls enjoyed a long and warm bath after having gotten rained on most of the day...

Rain and thunderstorm continued through that evening, night and the next morning and the area flooded so bad that organizers ended up canceling Day 2 of the race.

We were all a bit disappointed initially but got over it quickly when we realized that meant we could head home early and stop in Katy to see our friends the Blacks. We met up with them at McDonald's and visited for a bit before driving 2 more hours home. The girls slept for most of that last leg of the trip which was nice. Jim and I were able to visit and have some laughs reminiscing about the first MS150 we rode together 10 years ago.
Looking forward to making this a new family tradition each fall :)
