Michael James - Birth to 1 month

Michael was born on January 2nd, 2011.  Daddy was off work on vacation the last 2 weeks of 2010 and actually the Sunday Michael was born was the day before he was due at work.  We joke because with each child we have selected the worse possible day they could be born and sure enough that's the day they are born.  After being off for 2 weeks Daddy needed to be back at work so he only took his 2 days of paternity leave (Monday & Tuesday) and then half days the rest of the week.  This forced Mommy to jump right into life with 3 children just a mere 3 days postpartum.  The good news is that MJ was the easiest childbirth experience I had had so far.  No tears, short labor (2.5 hours from water breaking to baby) and just lots of love and help from our church family which made bouncing back a lot easier.

This first month flew by and I know people say that all the time but it has never felt that way to me with a newborn before.  I remember counting the weeks 'til 6 weeks old since its when they are supposed to start sleeping better.  Perhaps, it was having to take care of 2 other children or maybe the experience of knowing how short the newborn stage is.  I don't know, it just went by quickly.  There were and still are many challenges and I have had to be disciplined about seeking the Lord for sustenance, energy, wisdom.  I feel I've made some mistakes in the way I've handled my exhaustion (snapping at Daddy, not spending enough one on one time with you girls, etc.) but I am trying hard and I'm accepting the grace that freely comes from God... hoping that a new day gives me the opportunity to do it all better.
